New Zealand Tsunami Travel Time Maps
This dataset consist of a series of Tsunami Travel Time maps showing the expected travel time of the first arrival of a tsunami from a particular location to the closest point on the coast, a coastal tide gauge station or a DART location. The maps were created with ttt (https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/hazard/tsu_travel_time.shtml). The travel times are contoured every half hour. Note that the amplitude of the wave is not calculated, nor does it show the arrival time of the first maximum or the overall maximum of the tsunami. They would be expected to arrive later than the times shown. Note also that the accuracy of the model is limited by the accuracy and resolution of the underlying bathymetry data which is relatively coarse near the coast.

- Purpose
- The maps were created to rapidly estimate when we can first expect to see a tsunami at the coast, on a gauge or at a DART station. It is therefore of primary use in a response, but is also useful for other research purposes.
