LiDAR was captured for BOPLASS Ltd by Woolpert NZ Ltd (formerly AAM NZ Ltd), on 2 to 3 December 2022. The dataset was generated by Woolpert and their subcontractors. Data management and distribution is by Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand.
There is no DSM available for this dataset.
Data comprises:
- DEM: tif or asc tiles in NZTM2000 projection, tiled into a 1:1,000 tile layout
- Point cloud: las tiles in NZTM2000 projection, tiled into a 1:1,000 tile layout
Pulse density specification is at a minimum of >8 pulses/square metre.
Vertical Accuracy Specification is +/- 0.1m (95%)
Horizontal Accuracy Specification is +/- 0.3m (95%)
Vertical datum is NZVD2016.

Data Acquisition:
Airborne Laser Scanner (ALS) data was acquired from a fixed wing aircraft on 2 to 3 December 2022, using Woolpert's Optech Galaxy Prime 397 LiDAR system.
Data Processing:
Classification of the point cloud follows the classification scheme below:
1 - Unclassified
2 - Ground
3 - Low Vegetation
4 - Medium Vegetation
5 - High Vegetation
6 - Buildings
7 - Low Noise
9 - Water
17 - Bridge
18 - High Noise
Sounds Survey Ltd undertook a field survey to acquire ground test points. Ground data in this volume has been compared to ~220 test points obtained by Sounds Survey Ltd field survey and assumed to be error-free. The test points were distributed in 5 sites across the mapping area and located on clear ground. Comparison of the test points with elevations
interpolated from measured data resulted in:
Test point sites: 5
No. points: 220
Mean difference: -0.005 m
St. Deviation: 0.050 m
Standard Error (RMS): 0.104 m
The mean elevation difference was removed from the supplied data.
Horizontal Accuracy – the LiDAR point cloud was compared to survey data and found to fit well inposition. Expected accuracy is within the specified range.
Data classification has been manually checked and edited against available imagery.
The deliverables to LINZ were:
1m gridded bare earth digital elevation model (DEM)
Classified point cloud
All product deliverables supplied in terms of NZTM map projection and NZVD2016 vertical datum.
