NZL GNS 1:250K structural measurements (2nd edition)

This dataset has been superseded by a new edition (3rd edition, 2020) available here: https://data.gns.cri.nz/metadata/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/5F6780CB-4135-4204-A2C8-50DD74B0466F. This 2nd edition has been kept as a historical archive and is available on request ..

This dataset is the structural measurements data for New Zealand. The dataset is a product of the QMAP Geological Map of New Zealand Project and was produced by GNS Science. At the time of publication it represented the most current collection of structure data for New Zealand in a single dataset at a scale of 1:250 000. The dataset is stored in an ESRI vector geodatabase and exported to ArcGIS Server. The dataset comprises points with each point having attributes describing the type of structure, its dip and dip direction. The data structure complies with the GeoSciML 4.1 standard where relevant and uses the appropriate CGI Controlled Vocabularies. The mapping frame is defined as 'surface geology'.

The data should not be used at scales beyond that for which it was prepared. The spatial accuracy is estimated to be no better than +/- 250 m.

Statement

Process Step 1: Data compiled on 1:50 000 record sheets, simplified for use at 1:250 000 on to 1:50 000 compilation sheets, and digitised using ArcInfo. Plots of data verified by gis operator and author against compilation sheet. Attributes verified for logical consistency by gis operator. Process Step 2: Data combined to form a single database for each individual QMAP sheet. Process Step 3: Data passed initial verification checks and published as individual hardcopy maps. Process Step 4: Data passed final verification against data dictionary and released in digital form on CD/DVD for individual QMAP sheets. Process Step 5: Data combined into single seamless dataset for New Zealand, with limited revision of features (principally at the margins of individual QMAP sheets), expansion of attributes and standardisation of names and terms. Process Step 6: Data projected to NZTM and released as Web Map Service. Process Step 7: Data released as Web Feature Service and Digital Vector Data. Process Step 8: Data integrated with LINZ 2016 topographic data. Process Step 9: Data updated to comply with relevant GeoSciML standards.
