  • The NZ 1:2k Tile Index dataset provides a 1:2,000 scale index for aerial imagery and LiDAR datasets. This 1:2k tile index is part of a collection of indexes which are referenced to the [NZ 1:50k Tile Index](https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/104687) dataset. Like the NZ 1:50k Tile Index, these larger scale indexes support mapping of NZ mainland and coastal areas up to 50m in depth.   • The NZ 50k Tile Index dataset provides a 1:50,000 scale base index for larger scale indexes used for aerial imagery and LiDAR datasets. This index is different from [Topo50 Map Sheets]( https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/50295) in that there are no overlapping index polygons in this dataset. This index also expands further into the sea to support future mapping in coastal areas and encompasses all offshore locations up to 50m in depth. The dataset includes a map sheet code consistent with those from Topo50 Map Sheets, and an attribute for each tile to show whether there is a corresponding Topo50 map sheet with matching location coverage.   • This layer provides cadastral Survey Capture Areas (SCA). In conjunction with the implementation of Landonline in each region, LINZ undertook a project to "back-capture" existing parcel boundaries in the main centres of population and land development. It was intended to "back-capture" approximately 70 percent of existing parcels, which equates to about 20 percent of the land area of New Zealand. The data capture known as "Populate Electronic Parcel" (PEP) was undertaken under contract by EDS. The areas to be captured known as "Survey Capture Areas" (SCA) were defined in consultation with local LINZ staff, survey practitioners and Local Authorities. Within the defined SCAs, the dimensions for surveyed right-lined boundaries of current parcels were captured from existing survey plans. In addition, sufficient traverses, boundary ties, and connections to the geodetic control were captured or surveyed to ensure adequate network geometry and strengthen areas where the boundary dimensions are unreliable. This survey network was adjusted to generate modern survey coordinates for all relevant nodes. Where the resulting boundaries comply with the accuracy requirements of the 1998 Survey Regulations, then the adjusted co-ordinates were declared to have SDC (Survey-accurate Digital Cadastre) status.   • This dataset defines the Mean High Water coastline of New Zealand and offshore islands at a scale of 1:50,000, and describes the type of coast along the coastline, for example, steep coast, mangrove, or stony shore. **Purpose** The NZ Coastline – Mean High Water dataset is the first step towards improving the national coastline data for New Zealand. LINZ is currently working on a long-term project, “Coastal Mapping” to capture a range of national coastlines derived from LiDAR and bathymetry. This will enable us to generate coastlines, for example, for Mean High Water Springs, Chart Datum and Highest Astronomical Tide. The project is currently focused on capturing LiDAR and bathymetry data, and the timeframe for delivering the new coastlines will be established once the data capture has progressed. **Status** This dataset was created and is maintained from LINZ Hydrographic and Topographic sources. Originally created in August 2020, this dataset will be replaced by a more accurate dataset once data becomes available through the Coastal Mapping project. **Data sources and preparation** The spatial coastline data (1:50,000 scale) is sourced from the Topo50 series where it is described as a line forming the boundary between the land and sea, defined by mean high water. The source polygon data has been broken up into line segments to enable a coastal classification to be attributed to each segment of coast. Coastal classification data is based on official Electronic Navigational Charts published by the New Zealand Hydrographic Authority.   • The NZ Suburbs and Localities (Pilot) dataset describes the spatial extent and name of communities in urban areas (suburbs) and rural areas (localities) to help locate people and properties.  It is based on the [NZ Localities](https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/104830-fire-and-emergency-nz-localities/) dataset which is maintained by Fire and Emergency NZ.   At this stage,  [NZ Localities](https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/104830-fire-and-emergency-nz-localities/) continues to be maintained by Fire and Emergency NZ and published on the LINZ Data Service.  Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) will establish a new dataset to replace NZ Localities in 2023.  NZ Localities will continue to be available for a period of six months to allow for the transition to NZ Suburbs and Localities.  Updates to both datasets will be limited to priority changes required by the Fire and Emergency Communications Centre during this transition. While creating NZ Suburbs and Localities (Pilot), LINZ has taken the opportunity to restructure the data based on customer feedback.  Our intention is to make the suburbs and localities data easier to understand and use. The key changes introduced in NZ Suburbs and Localities (Pilot) are: All suburb and locality names are now held in a single field, to replace the 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st order names New Zealand Geographic Board official place names have been adopted, including macrons.  Additional name field, to hold alternative common or in-use names Each name field has a corresponding ascii field to provide the names without macrons or other special characters Territorial Authority has been added Small lakes and tarns have been removed A simple version of the data has been created to removed the related tables.
