Magnetotellurics data
Magnetotellurics data are used to determine the subsurface electrical resistivity structure and image in 3-D the distribution of conductive regions within the Earth associated with e.g. geothermal fluids, magma, and shear zones beneath faults.
Data have been collected across New Zealand (North and South islands), with large arrays measured the Taupo Volcanic Zone, Hikurangi Margin.

In summary the time series data is processed into MT data period (or frequency) dependent spectral cross powers, impedances and vertical magnetic field transfer functions formatted as standard EDI files using instrument manufacturer software. Subsequent is analysis and inversion modelling of the processed MT data.
MT time series data quality is mainly determined by the nature of the electromagnetic noise and strength of the natural field fluctuations at the time of measurement. Data quality can only be assessed by expert analysis after data processing. If any layout errors or factors that may affect data quality are observed during installation, these are recorded on the operator fieldsheets that accompany the raw data.
