Christchurch 0.075m Urban Aerial Photos (2023)
Orthophotography within the Canterbury Region captured in the flying season of 2022-2023. Coverage encompasses imagery over Christchurch City and the Banks Peninsula region.
Imagery was captured for Environment Canterbury by Landpro Ltd, 13 Pinot Noir Drive, Cromwell 9310, New Zealand.
Data comprises:
• 6854 ortho-rectified RGB GeoTIFF images in NZTM projection, tiled into the LINZ Standard 1:500 tile layout.
• Tile layout in NZTM projection containing relevant information.
The supplied imagery is in terms of New Zealand Transverse Mercator (NZTM) map projection. Please refer to the tile index layer for specific details, naming conventions, etc.
Imagery supplied with a 7.5cm pixel resolution (0.075m GSD).

*Data capture *
Imagery for this project was acquired between the 1/16/2023 and 4/5/2023 using the Leica ADS100 line scanning camera with SH100 sensor head fitted to a Leica PAV100 HP high performance gyro-stabilised mount.

*Flight planning *
Careful consideration was given during flight planning to geographic location, terrain, topographical characteristics of the area, acquisition efficiency, final output resolution and meeting the requested orthophoto quality specifications. Table 2 provides a summary of the flight parameters during the capture of all areas of interest within the Christchurch City and Banks Peninsula Urban Areas Schedule.
Summary of the flight planning parameters:
No. of flight lines 137
Total length of flight lines (km) 2037
Planned GSD (cm) 7.5
Sidelap (%) 70
Altitude range (ft above MSL) 2896 - 3354
Max altitude difference per AOI (ft above MSL) 0 - 85
GSD range (cm) 2 - 8
* Environmental capture requirements *
All imagery was captured without the presence of cloud or cloud shadow within the specified areas of interest. All capture flights occurred during times when the sun angle allowed sufficient detail in shadowed areas for features on the ground to be interpreted. A contract extension was provided for the Banks Peninsula area. Rivers were captured during times of appropriate flow/stage height/rainfall restrictions as specified by the client. These criteria were set to avoid periods of high river flow (flooding), rather than to target abnormally low river flows. Where relevant, all river flow and stage height restrictions were adhered to. Imagery covering coastal areas was captured within two hours of low tide, and extended out to 100 m from the coastline, and 100 m from the perimeter of the harbour.
* Ground control *
Ground control from both historic surveys and surveys carried out by Landpro during the 2022-23 aerial capture season were utilised.
