NZL GNS GM4 faults (1st edition)
This dataset has been superseded by a new edition (2nd edition, 2020) available here: https://data.gns.cri.nz/metadata/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/79DFDE2D-14C3-4E1A-9BAA-EE4AD2B545AB .
This dataset is the faults data for the Geological Map of the Tongariro National Park area. The dataset is a product of the Geological Map of New Zealand project and was produced by GNS Science. The dataset is stored in an ESRI vector geodatabase and exported to ArcGIS Server. The dataset comprises arcs with each arc having attributes describing the type of fault, its name, age and activity, and the sense of movement and cumulative slip. The data structure complies with the GeoSciML 4.1 standard for ShearDisplacementStructureView and uses the relevant CGI Controlled Vocabularies.

- Purpose
-
Spatially represents the faults present at or near the surface. The mapping frame within which the features have been observed is defined as surface geology (i.e. the bedrock and superficial deposits that would be visible if the overlying soil was removed or are exposed at the topographic surface).

Process Step 1: Data compiled on screen at various scales from original sources using ArcGIS. Plots of data verified against original source. Process Step 2: Field checking of captured data where possible. Process Step 3: Additional fieldwork undertaken where data were sparse or conflicting. Process Step 4: Data passed initial verification checks and published as hardcopy map. Process Step 5: Data passed final verification against data dictionary and released on USB as Digital Vector Data. Process Step 6: Data released as Web Map Services and Web Feature Services via ArcGIS Server.
